Fifth of a Series of “THE MORE YOU TELL THE MORE YOU SELL” Ads. on Classified Advertising —uses slogan— sells his house... Mr. P.ran this Want Ad in the Star in an effort to sell his home: 'i ■■ FOR St.VI.EJ—8-room brick residence, 105x170 feet, corner) will aeli cheap. X 000, Star. This Want Ad obviously has no pic ture-making power. It couldn’t con jure up a picture of Mr. P.’s house in the minds of prospective buyers, and \this is extremely helpful to a quick sale. Mr. P., not receiving good response from the above Want Ad, heeded ^he slogan, “the more you tell, the quicker you sell,” and ran this Want Ad: NORTH EDGE WATER RESIDENCE Eight room*, brick, strictly modern, nu parlor and sun porch; 2 baths; 4 lavatories, hardwood throughout, ma hogany finish, In good residential dis trict; 3 car garage; hot water heat; 165x170 feet, corner; shrubbery and fruit trees; good transportation; will sell cheap oh easj: terms. I Mr. P., 0000 N. Clark street. Roger* Park 0000. This second Want Ad sold the house. The secret of this Want Ad’9 success is evident. It contained enough in formation to give a person looking for just that kind of house a definite picture of one worth his investigat ing. The Star la trying to reduce these ineffective, vasteful Want Ada to the barest whisper of a minimum. It has been spreading the doc trine of “the more you tell, tlje ,<m.ick,er you sell." NEW ORLEANS, March 4.—This las* week in the cotton, markets, saw new highs levels for the season go on the boards almost constantly In7 the old crop months and on spots. New crop positions bulged close to the highest records for the season although they did not at any time break through Into new high ground. Highest prices cams on the closing session when the trad' ing months were 92 tp 117 points up; May rising to 30.25 and October to 26.38 cents a pound. The close was. 83 to 117 point up with May at 30.21 and October at 26.32. March, the spot position, rose to 30.50 »and closed at that price mak ing the widest net gain for the week of any month. Spots closed 76 points net higher at 30.50 for middling. The strongest in^uence of the week was the continued keen demand for actual cotton, which most people set down as consequent upon attempts of March spot shorts to cover. Back of this was a. good business in cotton goods which constantly urged the mills into the market for fresh supplies on raw materials. Duringkhe earlier ses sions of the week Lancashire complain ed of poor trade but on the close was, along with the American mills, talking in a more hopeful way. Mill takings for the week were 217,000 bales against 216,000. the preceding week and the vis ible su'bPly of American cotton decreas ed during the week by 107,687 bales, being reduced to 2,554,983 bales against 3,671,900 a year ago and 4,369,970 two years ago. During a patt of the week the weather was. dry over the belt but at the beginning and again at the close too much rain fell, especially in the western belt where planting and prepa rations to plant are being interfered with. Rains in Texas helped to put prices to their highest levels. RICHMOND LIVESTOCK.
